Till now only thing known about Tizen was that it has the best internet browser compared to any other browser on any platform currently available. Tizen was born after bada & MeeGo were merged to make an open source operating system for smartphones.
In Tizen Developer Conference today, Vaibhav from The Handheld Blog got the chance to play with the prototype device that Samsung was giving to the developers. The prototype was loaded with the first release of Tizen (codenamed Larkspur). The prototype had a high resolution screen probably 4.3 to 4.7 inches 720p HD screen and it was running on ARM chip. Other than that no more information on CPU clock speed or battery capacity are known. From the video we can see that the UI is heavily inspired from Samsung’s TouchWiz topping that Samsung uses on Android OS. The notification area too look like TouchWiz on Android & bada.
Here’s the video of Tizen OS:
Other than that so many services are built into the OS itself like Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, Picassa and Youtube. The OS is still in developing stage hence the look & feel is not as smooth as current other operating systems like iOS, Android or Windows Phone. This is still the reference device and does not represent the real potential of Tizen OS.
